Dunedin Botanic Garden

Dunedin Botanic Garden is located in the northern part of Dunedin. Established in 1863, it is the oldest botanic garden in New Zealand, covering an area of 28 hectares with over 6,800 plant species. It is one of the largest and most diverse specialized gardens in the country.

The park is filled with the gentle sound of streams, secluded walking paths, playful fountains, and birdsong, creating an elegant and tranquil atmosphere like a paradise on earth. The botanic garden consists of several themed gardens, including a rose garden, conservatory, herb garden, and a Japanese garden. The rose garden naturally boasts a variety of roses — red, yellow, and white — all in full bloom, exuding enchanting fragrances. The conservatory houses tropical and subtropical plants as well as various cacti. The herb garden cultivates medicinal plants and spices such as fennel and leeks, many of which are used by locals in their cooking. The Japanese garden is a small, exquisitely designed garden built in traditional Japanese style. Statues of various styles are also scattered throughout the gardens, while ducks swim carefree in the emerald-green ponds.

Perhaps due to the intoxicating fragrance of the garden, it also attracts numerous birds, butterflies, and bees, which dance among the blooms. There is also a dedicated children's playground where kids can enjoy swings and slides after exploring and learning about the diverse plants.
