Otago Settlers Museum

The Otago Settlers Museum is located in Dunedin and was established in 1898. It is a historical museum that introduces the history of the Otago region and is the oldest history museum in New Zealand. The museum primarily focuses on the indigenous Māori people, early Chinese settlers, and subsequent waves of immigration.

The Otago Settlers Museum mainly displays the technological inventions, artistic innovations, lifestyles, and modes of transportation used by different ethnic groups who immigrated here. In addition, there is a dedicated exhibition about Chinese immigrants in Dunedin, offering insights into the challenging experiences of the Chinese community over the past 100 years. The museum has four floors: the first floor features an exhibition space covering 3,000 square meters, the second floor displays large-scale transportation used by immigrants, the third floor is an 1,800-square-meter exhibition area, and the fourth floor showcases steam locomotives, as well as the reception area and gift shop.
