Wellington Park

Wellington Park is located in the western part of Hobart, the capital of Tasmania, and is a nature reserve named after Mount Wellington within the park. Due to its stunning natural scenery and rich ecosystem, it attracts approximately 300,000 domestic and international visitors each year.

The park’s elevation, latitude, and air humidity have contributed to a complex ecosystem. Situated at a distance from the city center, the ecosystem here remains well-preserved. Currently, the park is home to over 500 plant species, 30% of which are endemic to Tasmania, as well as at least 67 bird species, over 500 invertebrate species, and other wildlife. A variety of recreational activities are available in the park, with bushwalking and hiking, cycling tours, horseback riding, and mountaineering being among the most popular. Visitors are captivated by its ever-changing scenery throughout the four seasons.

Wellington Park is not only a beautiful landscape park but also a cultural one, with remnants of Indigenous Australians dating back 35,000 years and European settlers from 200 years ago still present. During important festivals, related celebrations are also held.

The park is open from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM in summer and from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM in winter.
