Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park
Established in 1922, Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park is located in the Central Highlands of Tasmania, 165 kilometers from Hobart. Covering an area of 161,443 hectares, it is one of the larger national parks in Tasmania.
Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park boasts the towering Cradle Mountain, the azure Lake St Clair, expansive coastal scenery, and vast wilderness areas. The park is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, with 40%–55% of its wildlife species being endemic, including pademelons, quolls, Tasmanian devils, echidnas, wombats, and possums. Additionally, the park serves as an important bird sanctuary, providing habitat for 11 native bird species, such as ravens and black currawongs.
Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park is an ideal destination for hiking and is highly popular among trekking enthusiasts. The surrounding wilderness offers breathtaking views, and visitors can stroll along the coastal trails at the foot of the mountains to witness spectacular sunsets.
