Wittunga Botanic Garden

Wittunga Botanic Garden is one of Adelaide’s three major botanic gardens, located in the western cliffs area of the Adelaide Hills. The garden’s history dates back to 1902 when it was originally an English-style garden. Over the years, it has developed into a vibrant and colorful botanical paradise.

Covering 14 hectares, Wittunga Botanic Garden initially featured plants primarily from Australia and South Africa. Over time, its collection expanded, and it reopened to the public in 1975. The garden is especially known for its collection of plants native to Kangaroo Island, the Fleurieu Peninsula, and Western Australia, with highlights including eucalyptus, heath shrubs, and Proteaceae. There is also a vibrant butterfly garden within the grounds, where numerous butterflies flutter among the flowers in dazzling displays. The garden is free to enter and is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM, and on weekends and public holidays from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
