Towering in the central desert of Western Australia, Wave Rock is a well-known tourist attraction in Australia, located about 350 kilometers from Perth, the capital of Western Australia, with a driving distance of 5 hours. Wave Rock is part of the most unique section of the northern Hyden Rock formation, standing 15 meters high and stretching approximately 110 meters long. Its undulating surface naturally resembles towering ocean waves rolling in, making for a spectacular sight. Every year, large numbers of European and American tourists visit just to witness this remarkable natural phenomenon. In recent years, the majority of visitors from Asia have been independent young travelers.

Wave Rock is composed of granite and formed around 2.5 billion years ago. Through the forces of nature, its surface has been carved into recessed shapes. Over time, wind and rain erosion, along with significant temperature variations between day and night, gradually shaped it into its current form. The entire erosion and evolution process is extremely slow, yet the resulting landscape before us is truly spectacular — a testament to the immense power of nature. The lines on the surface of Wave Rock are created when rainwater containing carbon and hydrogen washes over it, carrying away surface chemicals and causing chemical reactions. This results in black, gray, red, brown, and tan streaks across the rock face. These varying shades make Wave Rock appear more vivid, almost like a rolling ocean wave. For a long time, Wave Rock remained hidden away in the central desert of Western Australia until 1963, when a photographer named Joy Hodges captured its image during a trip. The photo won an award in an international photography competition in New York City, USA, and later became the cover of National Geographic magazine, propelling it to sudden fame. Since then, Wave Rock has become a sought-after location for photographers. The secret to capturing the rock’s various colorful streaks is to shoot it in the afternoon, as this is when the colors are most vivid. 　 Transportation: Drive there yourself; it's a 5-hour drive.
