Barrington Tops National Park is located in the Hunter Valley near Sydney, approximately 200 kilometers from Sydney. Established in 1969, it covers an area of 189,070 acres and is one of the largest national parks in the Sydney region. To better protect the flora and fauna in the area, the park was included in the Australian National Heritage List in 2007.

Part of the Royal Mountains, Barrington Tops National Park boasts a rich diversity of flora and fauna. The park's plant ecosystems range from subtropical rainforests to alpine vegetation on the mountaintops, which are often covered with thick snow. Due to its location in the mountainous regions of the suburbs, the park’s animal ecosystem remains intact and undisturbed by external influences. A large number of animals live and breed here, including some that are endangered worldwide, such as platypuses, flamingos, green catbirds, superb lyrebirds, echidnas, bats, kookaburras, king parrots, cockatoos, quolls, and wallabies.
