Mount Tomah Botanic Garden is situated in the western part of Sydney, New South Wales, about 100 kilometers from the city. Founded in 1972, it spans around 28 hectares, along with 128 hectares of protected land. The garden lies 1,000 meters above sea level and focuses on plants adapted to cool temperate climates, enabling many such species — which struggle to survive near Sydney — to grow exceptionally well. It showcases a variety of plants seldom seen in city-based botanic gardens.

Part of the Greater Blue Mountains Area, which is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Mount Tomah Botanic Garden boasts lush trees, vibrant flowers, and crystal-clear streams that trickle down through rocky crevices amidst the foliage. The garden is home to over 5,000 plant species from around the globe, including those originating from China, Southeast Asia, Africa, South America, Papua New Guinea, and New Zealand. Among its highlights is the Wollemi Pine — one of the oldest and rarest plants in the world. Standing before a Wollemi Pine can feel like stepping back in time. Mount Tomah Botanic Garden not only provides a breathtaking experience of the Blue Mountains rainforest but also offers a virtual journey through cool temperate regions around the world. In addition to its diverse plant life, the garden is also inhabited by small animals hidden in the mountains, such as kangaroos, possums, and owls.
