Hong Kong Science Museum

The Hong Kong Science Museum serves as a base for science education and outreach.

Situated on Science Museum Road in Tsim Sha Tsui East, the Hong Kong Science Museum is a three-storey building with a highly futuristic exterior. It is a place full of knowledge and fun where visitors and locals can personally explore the mysteries of science. It’s especially suitable for science-loving children and adults.

The museum’s permanent exhibition includes around 500 exhibits, the most eye-catching of which is the 22-metre-tall Energy Machine — the largest of its kind in the world. The exhibits are spread across 18 galleries covering a wide range of topics, and about 70% of them are interactive, encouraging learning through participation.

The museum houses different scientific exhibits from the basement to the third floor. The ground floor lobby mainly showcases widely recognized technologies such as optics, featuring an optics workbench where visitors can conduct simple optical experiments using mirrors, lenses, and prisms. The first floor displays computer-themed exhibits that introduce the structure, applications, and artificial intelligence of computers. Visitors can try various multimedia computer software in the computer laboratory and even control the movement of a sound-activated mouse through voice commands.

The second-floor gallery focuses on everyday technology, allowing visitors to learn how to pilot an aircraft using a flight simulator and soar over Hong Kong. Finally, the third-floor gallery introduces various energy-saving methods and provides a detailed analysis of issues arising from the use of fossil fuels, such as the greenhouse effect and air pollution.

In recent years, many visitors have flocked to the Science Museum, as it is one of the best-equipped museums of its kind in Asia, making it a popular sightseeing spot in recent times.

1. Exit at B2 of Tsim Sha Tsui Station on the Tsuen Wan Line of the MTR, then walk for about 10 minutes along Carnarvon Road towards Tsim Sha Tsui East.

2. Exit at D of Jordan Station on the Tsuen Wan Line of the MTR, then walk for about 20 minutes along Austin Road towards Tsim Sha Tsui East. 3. Exit at P2 of East Tsim Sha Tsui Station on the East Rail Line, then walk for about 10 minutes along Chatham Road South.
