Originally located within Kowloon Park, it moved in 1998 to 100 Chatham Road South, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, near the Hong Kong Science Museum. It exhibits unearthed relics from Hong Kong, historical photographs, paintings, and maps, and regularly holds cultural events as well as displays precious historical artifacts related to Hong Kong or from various countries.

Introduction

Located at 100 Chatham Road South, Tsim Sha Tsui East. The museum presents the natural and human history of Hong Kong as its core exhibitions, highlighting the city’s 6,000-year development. The displays are divided into three sections: an introduction to Hong Kong’s natural environment; physical evidence such as unearthed relics, ancient stone carvings, and kiln sites that reflect human activities in the region; and the transformation of Hong Kong from a small fishing village into a modern metropolis. Among its highlights is the “The Hong Kong Story” exhibition, covering 7,000 square meters, which uses advanced facilities and interactive programs to illustrate the city’s historical development. The museum houses a collection of over 45,000 items, categorized into four major types: archaeology, local history, folk history, and natural history. The archaeological collections include the renowned Father Macauhan and Father Finn collection. The local history section mainly features historical photographs, the earliest dating back to the 1860s. The folk history collection contains traditional Chinese fishing boat models, fishing gear, farming tools, and household items. The natural history collection mainly consists of rocks, minerals from around the world, as well as common butterflies and mollusk shells found in Hong Kong.

The Hong Kong Museum also frequently holds special lectures on local archaeology, folklore, and natural history to enhance visitors' knowledge and appreciation in these areas.

Transportation

1. Exit B2 at Tsim Sha Tsui Station on the Tsuen Wan Line or exit B2 at Tsim Sha Tsui East Station on the East Rail Line (the two stations are internally connected with the same exit name), then walk about 10 minutes along Carnarvon Road towards Tsim Sha Tsui East. 2. Exit D at Jordan Station on the Tsuen Wan Line, then walk about 20 minutes along Austin Road towards Tsim Sha Tsui East. 3. Get off at Hung Hom Station on the East Rail Line and walk for about 15 minutes.
