Stroll along the Avenue of Stars, where you can view the handprints of numerous celebrities while taking in the spectacular views of Hong Kong’s famous Victoria Harbour and the distinctive buildings along the Hong Kong Island coastline. It is also an ideal spot to enjoy Hong Kong’s dazzling new multimedia light and sound show — “A Symphony of Lights.”

Introduction

The Avenue of Stars in Hong Kong was originally a waterfront promenade located on the eastern side of Tsim Sha Tsui in Kowloon, connecting Hung Hom and Tsim Sha Tsui. It was later beautified and developed with government funding. Modeled after the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the United States, the avenue was built at a cost of HK$40 million. It showcases the development history of Hong Kong’s film industry and pays tribute to the achievements of behind-the-scenes stars and filmmakers. Stretching 440 meters from the Hong Kong Museum of Art to the area opposite New World Centre, it officially opened on April 28, 2004. As a tribute to distinguished figures in Hong Kong’s film industry, the pavement features plaques of 73 renowned filmmakers, over 30 of which include celebrity handprints, making it a popular tourist attraction. From veteran Hong Kong film personalities such as Ti Lung, John Woo, and Patrick Tse, to contemporary international masters of Hong Kong cinema like John Woo, Tsui Hark, Sammo Hung, Josephine Siao, Michelle Yeoh, Andy Lau, and Jackie Chan — all have left their handprints here. On November 27, 2005, a bronze statue of martial arts legend Bruce Lee was unveiled on the Avenue of Stars. The 2-meter-tall statue, modeled after his appearance in the film “Enter the Dragon,” was created to commemorate the 65th anniversary of his birth.

The entrance of the avenue also features a Golden Statue and a small stage for performances. Along the promenade, there are food kiosks, souvenir stalls, several film-related sculptures, and seating areas for visitors to enjoy.

Transportation

1. Exit from Exit F of Tsim Sha Tsui MTR Station, take the pedestrian tunnel to Exit J of East Tsim Sha Tsui Station in Kowloon, and follow the signs to get there.

2. Take the Star Ferry to Tsim Sha Tsui and walk for about 10 minutes to reach the avenue.
