Yuen Po Street Bird Garden

Yuen Po Street Bird Garden is located in Mong Kok, Kowloon, Hong Kong, at the junction of Boundary Street, Ki Tik Road, Prince Edward Road West, and Yuen Po Street. It is a theme park featuring traditional Chinese garden architecture, situated near the Mong Kok Stadium and Flower Market Road, covering an area of approximately 3,000 square meters. The main entrance is on Boundary Street, with another entrance on Yuen Po Street. The Bird Garden was built by the Urban Renewal Authority of Hong Kong at a cost of HK$29 million. Construction began in March 1996 and the garden was officially opened to the public on December 13, 1997. With its convenient location, beautiful design, and being a hub for stalls selling birds, cages, bird feed, and related items, the garden is highly popular among bird enthusiasts and also serves as a great spot for both locals and tourists.

The Bird Garden is a Chinese-style theme garden, with its design emphasizing the characteristics of the traditional Chinese “paifang” (decorative archway). The garden has a long, narrow layout, where “moon gates” divide the space into various garden sections. Over fifty lush, mature trees line the garden alongside bird stalls, making it an ideal place for bird vendors and enthusiasts to exchange knowledge and experiences. Architectural highlights of the Bird Garden include granite flooring, a bamboo-shaped glazed tile roof that glimmers in the sunlight, and more than two hundred bluestone carvings of different bird species around the garden. One of the most distinctive features is a finely carved Hundred Birds Mural located near the entrance on Boundary Street.
