Five-Color Lake is located above Milk Lake. After climbing up a steep ridge and ascending about another 100 meters, you can overlook Five-Color Lake from the mountain ridge, where the water displays an ever-changing spectrum of colors. It is also an excellent spot to view Mount Xiannairi.

Five-Color Lake derives its name from the way light refraction causes it to appear in five different colors. Its Tibetan names are “Mudicuo” and “Danzengcuo.” It lies between Mount Xiannairi and Mount Yangmai Yong, at an elevation of 4,600 meters, with a round-shaped lake surface. Covering an area of 0.7 hectares, it is a renowned sacred lake in the Tibetan region (praised in Buddhist scriptures as being as famous as Tibet’s Yamdrok Lake). Legend has it that the lake can “reflect history and predict the future,” and it is surrounded by many religious stories.

Transportation

No pack animals such as mules or horses are allowed beyond the Luorong Pasture. Therefore, reaching Five-Color Lake requires a hike, suitable for travelers with good physical stamina. On the way to Five-Color Lake, you will pass by Milk Lake.
