Introduction to Ganzi Erlang Mountain

To travel from Chengdu to Daocheng, you'll pass through most of the Sichuan section of the Sichuan-Tibet Highway, going through areas such as Ya'an and Luding, and you must also cross the famous Erlang Mountain.

Erlang Mountain is located 50 kilometers west of Tianquan County and sits at an altitude of 3,437 meters. Every May, large and small azaleas bloom in a riot of red, blue, purple, and white, while highland butterflies flit about, adding even more color to the scenery. The mountain features a viewing platform, which is actually a cliff with a gorge in the middle. Opposite it are layers of ice peaks, believed to be the remnants of ancient glaciers — solemn, silent, and majestic. The landscape of Erlang Mountain is unique: the roar of the Qingyi River, the sound of springs along the stream valleys, dense pine forests, and the occasional drift of white clouds. In 1940, painters Zhang Daqian and Ye Qianyu came here to sketch. In the 1950s, the song “Erlang Mountain” became popular nationwide, making the mountain widely known ever since.
