Chonggu Temple

Chonggu Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

Introduction: At an altitude of 3,880 meters, Chonggu Temple sits at the foot of the snow-capped Mount Xian Nai Ri. The exact year of its construction is unknown. The temple has been heavily damaged and now consists only of ruins. It belongs to the Gongga Langji Ling Monastery, where monks known as Zhaba would chant scriptures. A small chapel inside enshrines a clay statue of Sakyamuni. On the mountain opposite Chonggu Temple, there is an ancient meditation site used by monks, built atop steep cliffs. For those interested and physically fit, it's worth hiking up the trail to explore. Thanks to its prime location, Chonggu Temple has become a well-known campsite within the scenic area. It serves as a key stop on the route to view the three sacred mountains — Xian Nai Ri, Yang Mai Yong, and Xia Nuo Duo Ji — and is also the starting point for local Tibetan circumambulation rituals. Legend has it that the eminent monk Qiejie Gongjue Jiacuo built the temple here to dedicate his life to worshiping the sacred mountain and spreading Buddhism. However, the act of digging the foundation stones angered the deities, bringing disaster to the surrounding communities in the form of an outbreak of leprosy. In response, Qiejie Gongjue Jiacuo spent his days praying for the calamity to befall him instead of the villagers. His compassionate act moved the deities, who spared the people but afflicted him with leprosy, leading to his death. Today, the relics of Qiejie Gongjue Jiacuo are buried within the temple he founded. Monks there burn incense and chant scriptures every day in memory of his great virtue. Transportation: The distance from Chonggu Temple to Milk Lake is 20 kilometers; the path from Chonggu Temple to Pearl Lake is a narrow mountain trail, 1.5 kilometers long, which can be traveled on foot or by horse. The trail from Chonggu Temple to Luorong Pasture is also a narrow mountain path, 2.5 kilometers in length, accessible by foot or horse.
