Ka Si Hell Valley

Category: Tourist Attractions 👁 100 views
Ka Si Hell Valley is located on the western side of Mount Gongga, extending south to Ka Si Village and east to the southwestern slope of Tongnairi's ancient glacier cirque at Gerenggu. The valley stretches 12 kilometers in length, with a maximum depth of 1,000 meters. The cliffs within the valley rise thousands of feet high, forming a majestic, perilous, and mystical landscape. Natural rock formations create vividly realistic scenes such as the Hell Gate, King Yama’s Hall, Ghost Cliff, Tathagata Peak, and Black Waterfall. At the valley’s end, weathered dolomite rocks form symbolic "hellish torture" landscapes like the Divine Mirror, Balance Scale, Cleaver, and Swords, which closely align with local legends about the "Hell Valley," leaving visitors in awe.

The legend is strikingly accurate, leaving onlookers amazed.

Ka Si Hell Valley is one of the world’s eight great charnel grounds (Shitiling) mentioned in Buddhist scriptures. It is considered the necessary passage for human souls transitioning from the mortal realm to heaven. Crossing Hell Valley indeed leads to paradise — the sacred "Three Protectors" mountains: Xiannairi, Yangmaiyong, and Xianuoduoji.

Scenic Spots in the Valley

Valley Entrance: Features calcified colorful pools, calcified tree trunks, calcified shoals, and calcified waterfalls. Dense primeval forests, rugged rocks, and thundering waterfalls create a spectacular scene. Rare sights include Lover’s Tree and thousand-year-old cypress trees.

Ka Si Canyon: Located north of the Dongyi River, with an elevation ranging from 2,464M to 3,980M. It starts from Zangka in the south and extends to Peiya in the north, with a maximum depth of 2,000M and a length of 40KM.

Dongyi Canyon: Situated in the upper reaches of the Dongyi River, with an elevation between 2,500M and 3,600M. It stretches from Gewa in the south to Dangzhuo in the north, approximately 40KM in length, with a maximum depth of 2,000M. The canyon features sheer cliffs on both sides, with only a sliver of blue sky visible, creating a magnificent view.

Ka Si Village: Built along the Dongyi River and near the sacred Mount Ka Si Zhongjie. The village has over ten households, most of which are three-story Tibetan-style buildings. The village is set on terraced land, with the majestic and towering Mount Ka Si Zhongsi rising behind it. The mountain, with its two peaks facing each other, has a stream flowing between them (Mount Ka Si Zhongsi is known as the southern gate guardian of the "Three Protectors Snow Mountains").
