The Ancient Architectural Complex of Luocheng

The Ancient Architectural Complex of Luocheng is a protected cultural heritage site of Sichuan Province.

The ancient town of Luocheng is located in the northeastern part of Qianwei County, about 60 kilometers from Leshan City. It sits atop an oval-shaped hill, with its main street designed in the shape of a boat—long from east to west and short from north to south, resembling a weaving shuttle, which is why it's also called "a shuttle in the clouds."

It is said that when viewed from above, the ancient town resembles a large boat resting on a mountaintop—the street surface as the hull, the buildings on both sides as the hull’s sides, the central theater as the cabin, the Lingguan Temple at the eastern end like the boat’s stern canopy, and the Tian Deng stone pillar at the western end akin to the boat’s pole. The 22-meter-long covered street bridge on the right side of the Lingguan Temple is like the rudder. For these reasons, the ancient town is known as "China’s Noah’s Ark." In 1992, Luocheng Town was approved by the Sichuan Provincial Government as a “Provincial-Level Historical and Cultural Town.” In June 2007, the Sichuan Provincial Government designated the Ancient Architectural Complex of Luocheng as a provincial-level cultural relics protection unit.
