Luzhou Yuchan Mountain is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

The Yuchan Mountain Scenic Area is situated near the county seat of Luxian County, 33 kilometers from downtown Luzhou. As a national AAA-level tourist attraction, a Sichuan Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit, and a provincial-level scenic and forest park, it sits at an altitude of 548 meters with over 8,000 acres of forested land and a planned area of 49 square kilometers. The annual average temperature is 17.8°C. At the mountain’s base flow the Jiuchuan River, Laixi River, and Maxi River. Major attractions include the Pagoda Forest, Twin Toads Calling to Each Other, The Nine Dragons Bathing the Prince, Thousand-Hand Guanyin, Enlightenment Scene, Eighteen Arhats Sailing the Sea, and the relief sculpture “The Migration.”

The mountain is covered with oddly shaped rocks, many resembling toads, earning it the reputation of “jade-covered mountains with not a single stone without a toad.” Historically known for its secluded hills, unique stones, beautiful waters, and rich cultural relics, it is hailed as the “Pearl of Southern Sichuan.” The cliffside statue complex centered around the Thousand-Hand Guanyin consists of exquisitely crafted Buddhist rock carvings created by artisans through the ages. More than 400 statues remain, most of them from the Ming Dynasty. Ranging from over a foot to less than a foot in size, they feature smooth lines and lifelike expressions. Among them, “Thousand-Hand Guanyin,” “Enlightenment Scene,” “Liu Shan Playing by the Sea,” and “Eighteen Arhats Sailing the Sea” are finely carved, skillfully made, naturally formed, and considered masterpieces of art.

On the lunar calendar dates of February 19, June 19, and September 19 each year, the Yuchan Mountain Scenic Area hosts large-scale events such as the Yuchan Spring Festival and Yuchan Temple Fair. Devotees from across southern Sichuan flock to Yuchan Mountain to worship and pray for peace and safety.

Route 1:

Chengdu (Wuguqiao Bus Station) – Luzhou (Yitong Bus Station), via Chengyu Expressway, approximately 278 km, fare about 75–100 yuan, around 3.5 hours; Luzhou Xiaoshi Bus Station – Luxian County Bus Station, about 33 km, fare 13 yuan, around 30 minutes;

Take bus route 601 from Luxian County town to reach the foot of Yuchan Mountain Scenic Area.

Route 2:

Chengdu (Hehuachi Bus Station) – Luxian County Bus Station, fare about 80 yuan, journey time around 3 hours; then take bus route 601 from Luxian County town to reach the foot of Yuchan Mountain Scenic Area. Ticket: 10 yuan

Fuxi Town: A town under the jurisdiction of Luxian County and the location of the county government. Established in 1934 and still known by the same name today, it lies at the confluence of the Jiuchuan River and the Laixi River. Covering an area of 64 square kilometers with a population of 55,000, it is traversed by the Eastern Sichuan-Yunnan Highway and the Luzhou-Longchang Railway. Historically, it was a bustling commercial hub on the old post road between Luzhou and Chengdu.
