Luzhou Yulong Lake
Luzhou Yulong Lake is known as the No. 1 lake in southern Sichuan and a dazzling pearl of the region. The Yulong Lake Scenic Area is located within Lishi Town and Pilu Town in the eastern part of Luxian County. Originally known as Sanxikou Reservoir, it covers an area of 13 square kilometers, including a water surface of 6 square kilometers and a shoreline stretching 25.1 kilometers. It stores 25.1 million cubic meters of water, irrigates 100,000 acres of farmland, and produces over 200 tons of fish annually. Aerial photography reveals that the lake’s surface resembles a giant, multi-legged dragon, with the azure waters reflecting like polished jade, hence the name Yulong Lake Scenic Area.
Yulong Lake enjoys an excellent geographical location. Situated within the triangle formed by Chongqing, Neijiang, and Luzhou, it has a wide coverage area and convenient transportation. All nearby destinations are just 1–2 hours’ drive away, making it highly valuable for development and with great future potential.
Yulong Lake boasts beautiful scenery with lush mountains and clear waters. To the west of the lake lie undulating peaks such as Moonlight Mountain, Puzhao Temple Mountain, Five-Claw Mountain, and Buffalo Mountain—distant peaks like ink-wash paintings, nearby hills lush and green, willow-lined shores, and fragrant flowers and fruits, creating pleasant views. Farmers along the lakeshore have built new houses nestled against the mountains and waters, with wisps of cooking smoke rising, exuding a strong sense of rural charm on the fields of hope. The lake water is crystal clear with shimmering ripples, dotted with islands and crisscrossed by waterways. Birds sing joyfully in the sky while fish leap merrily in the water, together forming a vibrant natural landscape. Yulong Lake is rich in tourism resources. The scenic area spans 27 square kilometers and includes historic sites like “Erlang Well” to the east, modern architecture such as Aidabei Bridge Reservoir; to the west, Buddhist temples like “Puzhao Temple” and “Wuming Temple,” and the Wanshou Mountain Forest Park; to the south, an underground Dragon Palace cave with a myriad of fascinating stalactites and mysterious, thrilling underground rivers; and to the north, the Luosi Mountain Scenic Area, where visitors can explore the source of Yulong. The scenic area is developed into five major zones, 18 main attractions, and 36 minor spots, offering a serene environment with fresh air—it is an important destination in southern Sichuan for tourism, vacation, and summer retreats. The area is already taking shape, and being there is a true return to nature, providing a refreshing and unforgettable experience.
Yulong Lake is a premium aquatic production base in Sichuan, boasting a rich variety and abundance of fish species. In 1996, the 11th “Luzhou Laojiao Cup” Fishing Competition of the province was held here, earning it the title “No. 1 Fishing Spot in Southern Sichuan.” The local cuisine of Yulong Lake is famous for its fish dishes, including steamed Yangtze finless porpoise fish, chrysanthemum fish, squirrel fish, osmanthus fish, fish balls, and whole fish dishes—all delicious and uniquely flavorful, providing a treat for the taste buds.
