The Pǔqiáo Tomb Cluster

The Pǔqiáo Tomb Cluster is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Sichuan Province.

The tombs are distributed in a bamboo grove covering an area approximately 100 meters long and 50 meters wide at the eastern foot of Pǔqiáo Mountain slope, with a total area of 4,560 square meters. Five exposed Song Dynasty stone-chamber tombs and two unexposed ones have been found, all oriented west to east. The tombs feature vertical shaft-style burial pits, rectangular in shape, and are single-chamber structures built with stone to imitate wooden architecture. Each tomb consists of a passage, tomb door, and chamber. The side and rear walls of the chambers are equipped with niches, which are carved with figures such as warriors, maidservants, dragons, tigers, as well as patterns of doors, windows, and flowers. A central coffin platform is installed in each chamber. Among them, Tomb M1 has a passage 1.2 to 2.6 meters wide, 1.27 to 1.8 meters deep, and 2.7 meters long; the tomb door is 2.06 meters high and 1.52 meters wide on the inside; the chamber is 3.56 meters long, 1.74 meters wide, and 3.51 meters high. This tomb cluster provides rich scientific evidence for the study of the politics, economy, social life, funeral customs, and stone carving art of the Song Dynasty. In May 2006, it was designated as part of the sixth group of Major Historical and Cultural Sites Protected at the National Level by the State Council.
