Dayan Temple Ancient Fortress

The Dayan Temple Ancient Fortress is a cultural heritage site protected by Luzhou City.

The Dayan Temple Fortress is situated atop a mountain peak with an average slope of about 60 degrees. Built during the Qing Dynasty, it has an oval shape stretching from northwest to southeast and was originally a defensive residential complex. The fortress wall is approximately 2,500 meters long and about 2 meters high. Inside the fortress, there were originally four streets — Quanfu Street, Zhengda Street, Yuqing Street, and Anji Street — all of which have been destroyed, leaving only three fortress gates: Quanfu Gate, Anji Gate, and Yuqing Gate. Quanfu Gate, the main gate, faces west and is oriented eastward. Its lintel is inscribed with the words “Quanfu Gate, Safe Fortress Established,” which remain well-preserved to this day. Currently, the three gates are sealed with stone blocks, and a new gate has been built next to the original Quanfu Gate. The fortress also once housed the Dayan Temple, where people practiced spiritual cultivation and honored their ancestors. Originally, the fortress contained farmland, orchards, and ponds, enabling a largely self-sufficient lifestyle. These areas now belong to the premises of Qiqi Food Company. At the foot of the fortress walls lie three caves: Gufo Cave, Dayan Cave, and Xiaoyan Cave. Among them, Gufo Cave is the largest, covering over 80 square meters. The cave’s entrance wall bears inscriptions such as “Tai Shen Fa Bao, Jiajing Yi Wei Year” and “Namo Amitabha, Zhengde Sixteenth Year.” The cave walls also feature ancient relics such as tenon heads and through-beams. This site holds significant research value for understanding the politics, economy, and culture of the time. In October 2001, it was designated as part of the sixth batch of municipal-level cultural heritage sites by the Luzhou Municipal People’s Government.
