On October 20, 1933, Zou Fengping, Secretary-General of the Sichuan Provincial Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, came to Tongxian Township, Anyue County, following the Provincial Committee’s directive to “resolutely launch guerrilla warfare and organize local uprisings from all forms of peasant struggle, and establish Red areas.” He successively contacted Yu Ruoping, the secretary of the county Party committee, as well as Liao Bohua, Kang Sui, and others, and held multiple meetings. They concluded that the revolutionary situation in Anyue was ahead of the rest of Sichuan, and decided to organize an armed peasant uprising centered in Tongxian. On December 7, 1933, the Provincial Committee sent Min Anliang to the Suian County Committee to take charge of military work. After arriving in Anyue, Min Anliang stayed at the home of Yuan Hailin, a member of the Laifeng Township Peasant Association, and used the Tianlongyan Cave behind his house as the military command headquarters for the uprising. The Tongxian Uprising had to be launched hastily due to premature leaks, and failed for various reasons including errors in leadership command.

The Tongxian Uprising took place in the heartland of warlord rule, effectively diverting the attacks of the Kuomintang warlords against the Red Army in northern Sichuan, and laid a solid foundation for the future development of the revolutionary struggle in Anyue.
