Introduction to Guang’an Shengtian Lake Shengtian Lake is located at the foot of Huaying Mountain, within the territory of Pianyan Town, 48 kilometers from Bei’an, and sits at an altitude of 390 meters. It is the source of the Heishuitan River. In the 1970s, nearly ten thousand laborers spent almost a decade overcoming immense hardships, with some even sacrificing their lives and over 70 people being disabled, to construct this reservoir. It is one of the rare high-altitude artificial lakes on the land of Bashu and also stands as a historical testament to the Chinese spirit of conquering nature—hence the name “Shengtian,” meaning “Overcoming Heaven.” The lake covers an area of 1.5 square kilometers, with a water surface of 0.5 square kilometers, a maximum depth of 39 meters, and a total storage capacity of 15.95 million cubic meters. Surrounded by mountains on all sides, with steep and elegant peaks, winding lakeshores, and picturesque scenery, Shengtian Lake is known for its serene environment, emerald waters, towering waterfalls, and peculiar rocks. It enjoys the reputation of being the “Heavenly Pool on Earth” akin to Huagai Mountain. The “Lion Island” is lush with vegetation, the “One-Line Sky” features steep cliffs, the “Three Yuan Cave” is mysterious and deep, and the lake’s dam stands firmly with an extraordinary craftsmanship. On clear nights, the stars shine brightly, the moon is pristine, and the lake and islands appear hazy, creating a fairy-tale-like scene reminiscent of Penglai. In 1987, it was designated as a municipal-level scenic area, making it a rare summer retreat, sightseeing destination, and ideal for leisure and recuperation.
