Baoxian Temple

Baoxian Temple is a cultural relic protection unit of Sichuan Province.

Baoxian Temple is located in Yongxing Town, about 10 kilometers west of Huaying City. It was the former residence of An Bing, who served as the Junior Tutor and Grand Academician of Political Affairs during the Southern Song Dynasty. Covering an area of over 40 acres, it is a vast architectural complex consisting of four main halls, side rooms, and auxiliary halls. Due to An Bing’s repeated meritorious deeds in resisting the Jin invaders, the Southern Song emperor conferred upon him the title of Junior Tutor and funded the construction of Baoxian Temple to imperial city specifications through public donations. The temple was repaired during the Kangxi and Qianlong reigns of the Qing Dynasty but was damaged again during the Cultural Revolution.

Baoxian Temple is a wooden structure with single-eave hip-and-gable roofs. The entire temple is divided into four sections: the front hall, middle hall, main hall, and rear hall. The front hall is relatively spacious, with three bays. Inside, the front features a statue of Maitreya, flanked by the Four Heavenly Kings; the middle hall has five bays, with eighteen arhats sculpted on both sides; the main hall also has five bays, with the spirit tablet of An Bing enshrined at the center; the rear hall is 28 meters wide and 16 meters deep, and once housed many statues, all of which were destroyed during the Cultural Revolution. There were originally nine wells in the rear hall, but only two remain. Baoxian Temple is surrounded by ancient trees and blooming flowers in all seasons. The local legends about An Bing are fascinating. Currently, the temple has been listed as a key cultural relic protection unit of Sichuan Province, and Huaying City has included it in its tourism development plans. Blessed with remarkable people and a rich historical culture, the site attracts numerous worshippers who come here to burn incense and pray, keeping the incense burning continuously.

Protected Area: The boundary extends eastward and westward to the surrounding walls, southward to the drip line of the rear eaves of the rear hall, and northward to the road in front of the Mountain Gate Hall.

Construction Control Zone: Extends 10 meters outward from the protected area.
