The Xiaoshan Dam Scenic Area, located in Zhaoxun Village, Shuanghe Town, Huaying City, boasts naturally stunning beauty crafted by nature, combining grandeur, elegance, serenity, wonder, peril, and charm. Natural landscapes blend seamlessly with cultural elements. As you ascend Xiaoshan Dam, the first attraction that catches your eye is the Rhino’s Foot, hanging halfway down a huge rock—it is said to be the footprint of a rhino.

There is a legend behind this: During the Qing Dynasty, a British man came here with many instruments in search of treasures. This place enjoys abundant rainfall, a mild climate, ample sunshine, and is far from the hustle and bustle of the city, brimming with the boundless charm of nature. One day, through his instruments, he spotted the shadow of a rhino imprinted on the white cliff. In an attempt to capture it, he tied a rope around the rhino. At that very moment, a local villager happened to pass by. To protect the rhino, the villager slashed the rope with his knife; the rope snapped, and the rhino leapt and landed halfway up the mountain, leaving behind a deep footprint. The footprint now holds water and is said to never dry up through the year.

The second attraction in Xiaoshan Dam is the Crouching Lion Peak, located on the left side of Xiaoshan Dam. Standing on the flat expanse of the dam, the shape of its head, body, and tail closely resembles that of a reclining lion. If the “Rhino’s Foot” doesn’t quite qualify as a major attraction, then the Crouching Lion Peak serves as a majestic welcome sight for guests from all directions.
