Huaying Mountain Tianchi

Huaying Mountain Tianchi is a National Water Conservancy Scenic Area.

Huaying Mountain Tianchi is located among the peaks in the mid-section of Huaying Mountain, within Huaying City, Sichuan Province, at an altitude of over 640 meters. The lake is ring-shaped, covering an area of 2,200 mu, with an average depth of 25 meters and a total water volume of 260 million cubic meters. There is a cave entrance on the southwestern side of the lake that connects to an underground river, ensuring a continuous flow of water year-round. There are two small islands in the lake, including Moon Island, offering picturesque landscapes of shimmering waters and surrounding hills. It is often referred to as the "Little West Lake." Surrounded by high mountains, the lake reflects the blue sky and the mountain mist, creating a seamless blend of water and sky. The lake is home to numerous birds, colorful fish, sailboats, and graceful fishermen, presenting a truly delightful scene. The circumference of the lake is about 27 kilometers. At the center of the lake lies an island shaped like a crescent moon, commonly known as "Moon Island," which covers an area of over 300 mu.

The Huaying Mountain Tianchi Water Conservancy Scenic Area boasts abundant resources, a prime geographical location, a vast water surface, and excellent greening. It features distinctive elements of red culture, military industry culture, Buddhist culture, and folk culture. The scenic area has a well-planned layout with a clear theme.

Ancient county records state that during the Song Dynasty, a heavy rainstorm caused trees from the mountain to be washed down and blocked a cave, thus forming the Tianchi. Nowadays, Huaying Mountain Tianchi is renowned alongside Tianchi in Tianshan and Changbai Mountain as one of the three great Tianchi in China.
