Huaying Mountain Baoding

Huaying Mountain Baoding: Located in Xikou Town, Huaying City, Sichuan (historically known as the “Little Huayin Mountain”), it was first built during the Tang Dynasty and flourished in the Xianfeng era of the Qing Dynasty. It is a mountainous natural scenic area and a complex of religious ritual architecture, and one of China’s eight major Buddhist sacred sites. The highest elevation of Baoding is 1,590 meters. Over time, more than a hundred temples were constructed here, including Guangming Temple, Huanglong Temple, Nanzong Hall, Guanyin Temple, and others. It is world-renowned for its long and rich Buddhist cultural heritage, and enjoys the reputation of “Those who worship in the west go to Emei, those who worship in the east go to Baoding.”

Legend has it that the Bodhisattva Samantabhadra attained enlightenment here. The scenic area boasts the spectacular “Four Wonders and Eight Scenic Spots” (the Four Wonders being sunrise, Buddha’s halo, sea of clouds, and sacred lamps; the Eight Scenic Spots being Huaying snow, Baoding amidst clouds, three-flower rare trees, nine-character spiritual spring, Qijiang sunset, stone mirror at dusk, Huayan ancient cave, and jade wall shimmer). To this day, it still attracts hundreds of thousands of Buddhist devotees every year for pilgrimage.
