Qinglong Lake

Located 28 kilometers northwest of Xichong County, close to Qinglongchang, Qinglong Lake covers over 3,000 acres of water surface. The lake is shaped like a coiling dragon, winding and branching out extensively, with 93 bends and 63 (mountain) spurs. First-time visitors are bound to lose their way. Qinglong Lake features vast waters, crystal-clear and emerald-green in color, with numerous hills and islands dotting the lake and undulating mountains along the shore, creating a naturally delightful landscape. Boating on the lake, you’ll see rippling waves, glimmering light, and startled water birds taking flight—as if traveling within a painting. Here, you can admire the pink splendor of peach blossoms in spring, admire the delicate beauty of water lilies in summer, savor the rich fragrance of fruits in autumn, and enjoy the tender softness of the lake in winter—truly a heavenly pool on earth. The Qinglong Lake area is rich in historical ruins, including the Ji Dafen Tomb, which houses the burial site of Ji Tong, the Han Marquis of Xiangping and son of Ji Xin. The site features a 100-acre lawn that can accommodate thousands of people. Yan Family Ancestral Hall was where Yan Ximing, the Left Prime Minister of Zhang Xianzhong’s Daxi Army, went into seclusion to educate locals after the army’s defeat at Phoenix Mountain. This typical Ming and Qing architectural structure has been well-preserved. The entire ancestral hall follows a five-plum blossom layout—featuring five courtyards and five skywells, all interconnected yet forming a cohesive and independent system. The upturned eaves, windows, and carved doorframes showcase vivid patterns. Legend has it that the construction and completion of Yan Family Ancestral Hall took 30 years, with piles of timber stacked high—showcasing the enormity of the project. He Sheng Temple, built during the Qing Tongzhi era, boasts exquisitely designed pavilions and towers. Canhuashan Mountain is where the Buddha of Silkworms manifested to protect silkworm farmers from war when the Dashun Rebel Army passed through, shrouding the mountain in thick fog to mislead and help them avoid disaster. About 3 kilometers away from Qinglong Lake lies Qiaojiadong Cave, carved in the 6th year of the Ming Yongle era. It can hold over 200 people and includes passageways, shrine rooms, seven chambers, a well, kitchen, toilet, and even defensive traps. It took the chieftain of the local Qinglong Fort three years to complete. Cultural relics and the lake-and-mountain scenery complement each other seamlessly, blending man-made artistry with natural landscapes, making the charm of Qinglong Lake truly captivating. The lake water, gardens, and sandy beaches are the three major highlights of the Qinglong Lake tourist area.
