Shuangfeng Martial Temple

Shuangfeng Martial Temple is a Sichuan Provincial-level Cultural Heritage Protection Unit.

Built during the Qing Dynasty, Shuangfeng Martial Temple consists of a front hall, a main hall, and side chambers arranged in a courtyard layout.

Also known as the Guan Di Temple, Shuangfeng Martial Temple is a shrine dedicated to Guan Yu, the renowned general from the Three Kingdoms period. The temple was renovated in 1755 AD and has a history of 257 years. Located at the western end of Shuangfeng Market Town, according to Zhuang Weichong, director of the Xichong County Cultural Relics Management Office, the entire temple complex features a courtyard layout with a front hall, a main hall, and side chambers, all facing south and covering an area of 900 square meters.

Step up 11 stone stairs, push open two thick wooden doors, cross the high threshold, and enter the front hall of the temple. The front hall has two floors with three bays, spanning approximately 17 meters in width and about 5.5 meters in depth; the upper floor serves as a theater stage. Moving to the main hall, it also spans three bays, about 17 meters wide and 5.5 meters deep, featuring a mixed post-and-lintel and bracket-arm timber structure with six roof rafters and front and rear dairy arches. The roof is a single-eave hip-and-gable style covered with small blue tiles, standing about 10 meters tall. On the beams of the main hall, numerous ink inscriptions can be seen, with faintly recognizable characters such as “Made in the 20th Year of Qianlong Reign of the Great Qing” along with the names and donation amounts of some contributors.

In 1987, Shuangfeng Martial Temple was listed as a County-level Key Cultural Heritage Protection Unit of Xichong. In July of this year, it was officially designated as a Provincial-level Cultural Heritage Protection Unit of Sichuan.

Protected Area: Extend 30 meters south, 30 meters north, 1 meter west, and 3 meters east from the building’s foundation.

Construction Control Zone: A buffer zone extending 20 meters beyond the protected area.
