Introduction to Nanchong Xishan

Xishan is a famous scenic area in Nanchong, not only known for the beautiful legend of Xie Ziran ascending to heaven but also because locals have long upheld the tradition of "visiting Xishan on the third day of the third lunar month." Three of the ancient Eight Scenic Spots of Nanchong are located here. "Golden Spring Moonlight" is said to have been created when Yuan Tiangang transformed a golden hairpin into water; "Autumn Colors of Guoshan" was once famed for its hills covered in yellow fruit and golden locust trees offering refreshing shade in autumn; "Qile Sacred Pool," though located in the mountains, remains full of clear water regardless of drought. People used to judge the weather by whether the pool’s water was clear or murky. Xishan is home to a large collection of cultural relics and historic sites dating back to the Han Dynasty, showcasing Nanchong's cultural traditions and level of civilization. The Tang Dynasty female poet Xue Tao and the Song Dynasty great poet Lu You both once stayed in Nanchong and composed poems praising the beautiful scenery of Xishan.

Scenic Area Composition (Editor's Note)

The Nanchong Xishan Scenic Area is planned to consist of six scenic zones and one Xishan River scenic line.

One Core: Refers to the core carrier of the main scenic area of the "Origin of Three Kingdoms Culture."

Two Belts: Refers to the cultural landscape belt formed by Wanjuan Tower, Kaihan Tower, and Qile Temple; and the natural landscape belt formed by Yuping Mountain–Chaqi Mountain–Huofeng Mountain–Qile Mountain–Qinglong Mountain–Ma’an Mountain–Yuanbao Mountain.

Three Sections: Refer to the three areas of the scenic zone: southern, central, and northern. The southern section is the Xishan area, the central section is the Xishan River area, and the northern section is the Qinglong Mountain area.

Six Zones: Refer to the six scenic areas that make up the scenic zone, which are:

Wanjuan Tower Scenic Area (0.87 km²): The main scenic area for exploring the origins of Three Kingdoms culture.

Kaihan Tower Scenic Area (0.7 km²): An experiential and heritage scenic area embodying the Nanchong spirit of "loyalty, righteousness, and integrity."

Qile Mountain Scenic Area (2.27 km²): A patriotic education base for red culture represented by the Nanchong Martyrs' Cemetery and the Shunlu Uprising, as well as a religious culture scenic area centered around Qile Temple and the Catholic Benedictine Monastery in Yangrenwan.

Ruyan Mountain Scenic Area (4.1 km²): The main scenic area for promoting motherly love culture.

Xishan River Scenic Area (2.44 km²): Focused on the water landscapes of the Xishan River and ecological scenery along the riverbanks, this area hosts folk culture activities and leisure vacation facilities.

Qinglong Mountain Scenic Area (8.42 km²): Centered around religious culture such as the Lianchi An Chan Monastery and the natural landform and terrain of Qinglong Mountain, this is a scenic area for nature sightseeing and wellness leisure.

The planned structural layout of the front area of Xishan is divided into: "one belt, five axes, six sections."

One Belt: An ecological landscape and open space belt along both banks of the Xishan River.

Five Axes: A regional development axis along Huafeng Road–Yugui Road–Yuping Road–Hefang Street, connecting seven functional zones and strengthening the overall connectivity of the front area of Xishan. Four urban development axes along Silk Road, Qileya Tunnel, Xishan South Road, and Chen Shou Road carry forward the developmental advantages of Shunqing District.

Six Sections: Based on the natural environment and urban functional layout, the front area of Xishan is divided into six functional sections: Romantic Yangrenwan, Qile Zen Manor, Silk Capital Town, Xishan New Block, Anhan Ancient City, and Anhan Food Block. The first four are primarily residential, supplemented by commercial services, public management, and public service functions. The latter two are public-service-led sections. After development, the front area of Xishan will become an important strategic point for Nanchong’s smart growth, a demonstration zone for mountainous city construction, a key area for enhancing urban service functions, and a new window showcasing the city’s image.
