Site of the Shunlu Uprising

The Site of the Shunlu Uprising is a cultural tourism attraction and a classic red tourism destination.

The Site of the Shunlu Uprising is located within Guoshan Park in Nanchong City. On March 8, 1983, the Nanchong Municipal People's Government designated it as a cultural relics protection unit. In 1988, a memorial room commemorating the Shunqing Uprising was established at the site of the oath-taking assembly of the Shunlu Uprising in Guoshan Park.

In 1926, in order to strike against reactionary forces and contain Sichuan warlords from marching eastward to threaten the Wuhan Nationalist Government, the Sichuan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China led the earthshaking "Shunlu Uprising" that shook the entire province. In the summer of 1926, Yang Angong, Secretary of the Sichuan Provincial Committee, convened a meeting to discuss the action plan for the Shunlu Uprising. A six-route uprising army with Liu Bocheng as the commander-in-chief was formed, and it was decided that uprisings would take place simultaneously in Shunqing and Luzhou that winter. Then, using Shunqing as a base, they would attack Suiding (now Dazhou), eliminate the most stubborn warlord Liu Cunhou, and join forces with the Northern Expeditionary Army in Wuhan. On December 3 as originally planned, the first shot of the Shunqing Uprising was fired, surrounding He in the division headquarters. The enemy panicked and set fire to four streets (Xueyuan Street, Huangqiang Street, Dadong Street, and Zhengnan Street). After the victory of the Shunqing Uprising, on December 10, over 20,000 people including the first, second, and third route uprising armies in Shunqing and local civic groups held an oath-taking assembly in Guoshan Park. Liu Bocheng delivered a speech at the meeting, calling on all uprising forces and citizens to unite in overthrowing imperialism and warlords. The entire assembly was filled with fervent emotion. On December 16, He Guanglie, unwilling to accept defeat, launched a counterattack. Liu Bocheng personally directed the battle, but due to being outnumbered, after a day of fierce fighting, the uprising forces withdrew from Shunqing. Although the "Shunlu Uprising" failed, it was the first armed uprising independently led by the Communist Party of China in commanding its own troops, providing valuable experience for later large-scale uprisings. On March 8, 1983, the Nanchong Municipal People's Government designated it as a cultural relics protection unit. In 1988, a memorial room commemorating the Shunqing Uprising was established at the site of the oath-taking assembly of the Shunlu Uprising in Guoshan Park.

In December 2016, the Site of the Shunlu Uprising was included in the "National Directory of Red Tourism Attractions and Scenic Areas."
