Nanchong Liberation Monument

The Nanchong Liberation Monument is a cultural relic protection unit of Sichuan Province.

The Nanchong Liberation Monument was originally constructed as a wooden-pillared, brick-walled spiral tower in the 13th year of the Republic of China (1924) by He Guanglie, then division commander of the Nanchong garrison. In the 16th year of the Republic of China (1927), after warlord Luo Zezhou suppressed the Shunlu Uprising led by Liu Bocheng, the spiral tower was demolished and replaced with the "Suppression of Rebellion Monument" on the original site. By the 34th year of the Republic of China (1945), after the victory in the War of Resistance, it was renamed the "Monument to Martyrs of the War of Resistance."

One side of the monument bears the large characters “Monument to Martyrs of the War of Resistance,” while the other side is inscribed with the following text: “Alas, valiant soldiers who fell in the war against Japan, loyal and true, gave their lives on the battlefield to save the people from peril and bring glory to the nation. They repelled the enemy with unparalleled bravery, their names shall be fragrant through the ages and never forgotten.” The inscription is signed by Chiang Kai-shek. On another face of the monument is a seven-character poem: “Victory in the War of Resistance builds a new China, triumphant return we toast with wine to yellow flowers, fulfilling the world’s longing for peace, the scenery remains as we talk of farming life.” In December 1949, Nanchong was liberated, and after the establishment of the city in March 1950, it was renamed the Nanchong Liberation Monument.

Protected area: 20 meters eastward from the base of the monument, 10 meters westward, 10 meters southward, and 25 meters northward.
