Wanyuan Red Army Park is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction and a classic red tourism site.

Wanyuan City was an important area of the Sichuan-Shaanxi Soviet Region during the Second Revolutionary Civil War and is known as the “Red Wanyuan.” In December 1932, Red Army generals such as Xu Xiangqian, Li Xiannian, and Xu Shiyou fought the “Battle of Wanyuan Defense,” the longest-lasting, largest-scale, toughest, and most glorious battle in the history of the Fourth Red Army, creating many moving legends of war — Xu Shiyou’s bloody battle at Damianshan shook the military annals; Zhang Caiqian’s fierce fight at Xuannzu Hall saw rookie troops annihilate a powerful enemy; Li Xiannian blocked the enemy at Hu’eshan Mountain, leaving behind eternal glory; Xu Xiangqian led a nighttime raid on Qinglongguan, sweeping away thousands of enemy troops with unstoppable force. To commemorate the resounding victory of the Battle of Wanyuan Defense, construction of the Battle of Wanyuan Defense History Exhibition Hall began in January 1984. Then General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee - Bang inscribed the name of the hall, followed by inscriptions from Party and state leaders including Xu Xiangqian, Li Xiannian, Xu Shiyou, and Zhang Aiping. The hall is located on the hillslope North of the city within the Red Army Park, 1 kilometer from downtown, covering an area of over 20 acres. The building complex spans 2,500 m² with a garden-style design and a layout of two sets of quadrangle courtyards. It features exquisite architecture, attractive appearance, four exhibition rooms, and a display line of 170 meters. The hall houses 1,238 revolutionary cultural relics, among which there are 2 first-grade national relics, 15 second-grade relics, 90 third-grade relics, and over 1,000 document-type relics. In June 2001, it was designated by the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee as a “National Patriotic Education Demonstration Base.” By the end of 2004, it was also included in the “National 100 Classic Red Tourism Sites” by six state ministries. In December 2014, the Red Army Park was rated as a national AAA-level tourist attraction, attracting a large number of visitors. It has received over 3 million domestic and international tourists.
