Hidden deep in the mountains, the Wanyuan section of the ancient “Litchi Road” features long flights of stone steps and flagstone-paved paths that remain undisturbed by modern roads. Weathered into rugged and mottled surfaces over the years, strolling along here evokes a profound sense of history’s weight and vicissitudes. Due to minimal human interference, it has been well preserved. The ancient road remains include bluestone slab paths, stone stairways, horse-watering troughs, horse-blocking walls, fortified walls, and official barracks — all of which bear witness to the former grandeur of the Litchi Road. Within Wanyuan, remnants of the ancient Litchi Road are not only widely distributed and numerous but also relatively well preserved.

In 2019, the Litchi Road (Wanyuan Section) was designated as part of the ninth batch of Provincial Cultural Heritage Protection Units by the People’s Government of Sichuan Province.
