Brief Overview: Surrounded by water on three sides and backed by mountains, Yanglie New Village in Jun’tang Town, Xuanhan County, is shrouded in misty clouds, resembling a paradise on earth. Stepping into the village, you’ll see rows of stylish and uniquely designed residential buildings nestled among green hills and trees, creating a stunningly beautiful scene. Being in this place feels like entering a picturesque scenic area. As a result, Yanglie New Village has earned the reputation of being the “No. 1 Village in Eastern Sichuan.”

Scenic Area Introduction:

Upon arriving at Yanglie New Village, you’ll see a row of red slogans that read “Model Post-Disaster Reconstruction Village Outside the Earthquake Zone,” because Yanglie New Village is hailed as a “model project for post-disaster reconstruction outside the earthquake zone,” and serves as an example of transforming a disaster-stricken area into a tourist attraction.

The Flood Left No Mercy, Turning Homes into Rubble

On July 18, 2010, a rare flood turned Yanglie Village in Jun’tang Town, Xuanhan County, into a vast expanse of water. The floodwaters submerged the area for as long as 22 hours, with an average water depth of 8 meters and a maximum depth of 12 meters. A total of 347 houses were damaged, affecting 169 households and 592 people. The ruthless flood brought catastrophic devastation to the people of Yanglie, turning their once warm and pleasant homes into scenes of utter destruction in the blink of an eye.

In response to post-disaster reconstruction, the Xuanhan County Party Committee and County Government clearly stated that reconstruction would not be a simple “replica,” but rather involve forward-thinking planning, improved functionality, optimized structure, and highlighted characteristics, aiming to transform the disaster zone into a scenic destination. Drawing on the experience of earthquake reconstruction, the county integrated the construction of a new rural complex with post-disaster rebuilding and the shaping of folk-style architecture, establishing Yanglie New Village as the “No. 1 Village in Eastern Sichuan”—a place that combines “commercial tourism, leisure vacation, educational support, residential entrepreneurship, and urban-rural interaction.” Today’s Yanglie New Village has been developed into a picturesque lakeside and mountainous scenic area where “houses sit amidst forests, water flows beneath windows, and people stroll as if in a painting.”

Meanwhile, the Xuanhan County Party Committee and County Government, in conjunction with the construction of the new rural complex in Yanglie New Village, have also vigorously developed specialty agriculture, sightseeing agriculture, and rural tourism in the surrounding areas of Yangjia River and Baimiao River. The supporting Yangjia River Waterfront Promenade has become an ecologically unique and picturesque landscape corridor in Eastern Sichuan, while Yanglie New Village shines as a brilliant pearl embedded in this corridor.

A ray of warm sunlight pierces through the clouds and spills onto the peaceful Yanglie New Village. At this moment, it’s as if lightning has ignited the entire mountain village. From time to time, the chirping of birds can be heard, and the smoke from newly built homestays curls gently upward. This poetic morning is so enchanting that one could easily wish to stay here forever.
