Fuquan Wen Guang Pagoda
Fuquan Wen Guang Pagoda is a cultural relic protection unit of Sichuan Province.
Wen Guang Pagoda is located on Tongxin Mountain in Tongxin Village, Donghu Township, Fuquan County, facing west from the east. It is known as the "Fuquan Literary Sprout."
The county annals record: In the Jin Dynasty, the immortal Ge practiced alchemy here, often joined by other extraordinary individuals, hence the mountain was named Tongxin (Same Heart) Mountain, and later the Tongxin Taoist Temple was built. During the Song Dynasty, local scholars Lü Zhen and Lü Cao studied here and both gained literary fame. A nine-story pagoda was built at the mountaintop, resembling a jade brush pointing to the sky, called the "Literary Brush Pagoda." It is also recorded: In the Ming Dynasty, a seven-story stupa was built on the flat and open top of the mountain. During the Qing Dynasty's Qianlong and Daoguang eras, it was renovated and renamed "Wen Guang Pagoda," symbolizing the flourishing literary spirit of the county. The body and base of the pagoda are octagonal, with a Sumeru pedestal. The base is built of strip stones, measuring 2.5 meters on each side and 1.83 meters in height. The pagoda itself is a brick-and-stone structure, seven stories high in a pavilion style, tapering upward with windows on each level, and topped with an eight-sided spire and a precious bead finial, reaching a total height of 30 meters. The ground floor has an arched door with the three characters "Wen Guang Pagoda" inscribed by Magistrate Chen Changyong. The door pillars are engraved with: "Seven levels shine anew, rejoicing in nurturing literary talents; the writing platform opens brilliance. The Three Terraces reflect glory, watching martial and civil excellence—names inscribed on the heavenly list," written and inscribed by the county’s scholar and imperial examinee Zhang Zhen. The inscription reads: "The 26th year of the Daoguang reign, winter month, 1846."
Visitors can spiral upward around the solid central pillar. After climbing the 113 steps, they reach the top floor, where they can gaze into the distance and take in the sight of the Tuo River like a ribbon, the sky bridge like a rainbow, the city shrouded in mist, the fields like emerald waves—a splendid painted scroll all within view. In July 1982, the People's Government of Fuquan County designated it as a cultural relic protection unit.
Protected area: 5 meters beyond the pagoda base.
Construction control zone: 50 meters beyond the protected area.
