Former Site of the Rongxian Military Government

The Former Site of the Rongxian Military Government is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The Former Site of the Rongxian Military Government is located in Rongxian County, Sichuan Province (Xuyang Town), within the county town, behind the current office building of the Rongxian County People's Government.

The Former Site of the Rongxian Military Government was where revolutionaries such as Wu Yuzhang handled military and political affairs after Rongxian declared independence in the first uprising of the Xinhai Revolution. It is a Qing Dynasty-style sanheyuan ancient building complex, composed of the former county government’s third hall, rear hall, and side rooms on both sides, covering a total area of 700 square meters.

In September 1911, Wu Yuzhang, together with fellow townsmen Long Mingjian and Wang Tianjie, initiated an uprising. On September 25, they proclaimed Rongxian’s independence and established the Rongxian Military Government, which exercised authority over military, political, financial, and cultural affairs, pioneering the wave of uprisings in the Xinhai Revolution.

The military government was stationed within the county government compound.

On October 7, 2019, the Former Site of the Rongxian Military Government was included in the eighth batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units.

Protected area: to the east up to the government dormitory building, to the south up to the office building, to the west up to the government canteen, and to the north up to the southern edge of the sports field.
