Shuangxi Lake

Shuangxi Lake is a national AA-level tourist attraction and a national water conservancy scenic area.

Shuangxi Lake is located one kilometer north of Rongxian County, a historic and renowned city in southern Sichuan. It is 40 kilometers from Zigong and 100 kilometers from Leshan, facing the nationally famous Rongxian Giant Buddha across the city. The lake is easily accessible via a cement road, offering very convenient transportation. Shuangxi Lake is a suburban tourist scenic area characterized by a subtropical low-mountain lake, set against a backdrop of forests, streams, valleys, and cultural heritage sites.

Shuangxi Lake is a man-made reservoir that integrates multiple functions including agricultural irrigation, urban water supply, flood control, tourism, power generation, and aquaculture. The lake’s catchment area spans 80.25 square kilometers, with an engineering land requisition area of 5,195.75 mu (including 788.78 mu for the project itself, 3,504.03 mu of submerged land, and 902.94 mu for management and other uses). The total storage capacity is 58 million cubic meters, with a beneficial storage capacity of 43.8 million cubic meters. It supports an irrigated area of 216,000 mu and provides an annual urban water supply of 5 to 20 million cubic meters. The completion of the reservoir has increased Rongxian County's flood control capacity from a standard of once every five years to once every twenty years.

The Shuangxi Lake area has long been a cultural hub of Rongzhou. It was the homeland of Wang Xiang, a notable scholar of the Northern Song Dynasty. The Shuangxi Book House beneath Stone Turtle Mountain stands on the former site of the “Hengxi Pavilion,” built by Wang Xiang. Throughout history, literati such as Huang Tingjian and Lu You visited this place to explore its antiquity and composed poetic verses praising the region, such as “The people here are simple, the scholars are noble — for miles it flourishes as a land of poetry and books.” Zhao Xi, a late Qing Dynasty scholar-official, poet, and calligrapher, was born here. The proletarian revolutionary Wu Yuzhang once received underground party members and patriots here to engage in revolutionary activities. With its picturesque landscape nestled between mountains and water and rich cultural heritage, Shuangxi Book House has become one of the Eight Scenic Spots of Rongzhou.

After the completion of Shuangxi Lake, the bold and powerful characters “Shuangxi Reservoir” on the dam were inscribed by General Zhang Aiping, former Minister of Defense. Leveraging its clear waters and green hills, a variety of colorful tourism projects have been developed, making Shuangxi Lake a grand and scenic tourist destination in Rongxian County.
