Chongqing Shengshou Temple

Chongqing Shengshou Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

Shengshou Temple is located to the right rear of Dafo Bay on Baoding Mountain. Originally built during the Chunxi era of the Southern Song Dynasty, it was a Esoteric Buddhist temple established under the direction of the renowned monk Zhao Zhifeng. Initially called Wufuo Cliff, it was later renamed to its current title after expansion. The original temple no longer exists, and the existing structures date back to the Ming and Qing dynasties. Nestled against the mountain, Shengshou Temple features majestic halls and exquisitely carved decorations.

Its main halls include the Heavenly King Hall, Jade Emperor Hall, Mahavira Hall, Scripture Hall, Lamp-Lighting Hall, and Vimalakirti Hall. During the Yongle era of the Ming Dynasty, a more than 20-meter-high, eight-sided, four-eaved "Wansui Tower" was constructed south of the temple.

Shengshou Temple enjoyed great popularity during the Ming and Qing dynasties, and it houses carvings that served as prototypes for the sculptures at Dafo Bay, likely serving as the original models for those works.
