The Nan Bamboo Mountain Scenic Area is 9 kilometers from Taiping Town in Dianjiang County. The mountain features approximately 2 square kilometers of bamboo sea, with a coverage rate of 95%. At an elevation of over 1,000 meters, the area enjoys an average annual temperature of 23°C, with a minimum of -9°C. Summers are cool and winters bring enchanting snowy landscapes. The scenic area is known for its wonder, peril, beauty, serenity, and antiquity. Its wonder lies in its uniquely shaped pines and grotesque rocks—ancient pines twist like old men fishing or golden monkeys gazing at the moon, bowing to welcome guests. The grotesque rocks take on countless forms: lovers whispering, a woman gazing longingly for her returning husband, elders playing chess. The peril is found in cliffs as if hewn by axe, peaks as sharp as knife-cuts, and paths winding like snakes, which may alarm the eye but offer thrilling yet safe climbing. The beauty shows in the tall, verdant nan bamboos; in spring, cherry blossoms flurry like snow and peach blossoms shed their pink hues; in summer, mountain flowers bloom in vibrant colors; in autumn, red leaves blaze like fire and grass paints poetic shades; in winter, snow blankets the land in a pure, enchanting white. The serenity hides in deep forests and winding paths, where every turn brings new discoveries and delightful surprises. The antiquity is felt along ancient paths shrouded in mystery, rich in legends as precious as jade, where temple bells ring crisp and melodious in the morning, adding layers of historical and cultural depth.

The Nan Bamboo Mountain Scenic Area is the earliest developed site within the Mingyue Mountain Municipal Scenic Spot. The surrounding area is covered with lush broadleaf forests and mixed shrubs, forming a peaceful and pleasant ecological environment. On clear mornings, the distant view of the bamboo sea is breathtaking, lifting the spirit, while standing quietly among the woods brings a refreshing, invigorating calm.

The bamboo sea offers plenty of wild charm. Walking along forest trails shaded by overhead canopies, occasional beams of sunlight pierce through, accompanied by birdsong and insect chirps, with bees and butterflies fluttering amid blooming flowers—offering visitors a serene, nature-immersed experience. Major attractions in the scenic area include Baiyan Temple, Lansheng Three Pavilions, Ganying Temple, Monks’ Slope, Sunrise Viewing Spot, Arhat Mountain Waterfall Cluster; Mongolian yurt camps and horse racing grounds; Emerald Bamboo Corridor, Golden Bamboo Eco-corridor, and more.

(1) Baiyan Temple – This temple was once a place of hidden talent and mystery, home to monks with extraordinary martial arts skills and mystical powers. Among the most popular local legends is the story of the “Pillar-to-the-Sky Monk” of Baiyan Temple. This monk loved to travel far and wide, righting wrongs and upholding justice. Whenever he punished evil and helped the innocent, he was said to stand on his hands with his feet pointing to the sky. Eventually, the image of the Pillar-to-the-Sky Monk became that of a living bodhisattva in the hearts of locals—a symbol of rescue and relief in times of trouble.

(2) Lansheng Three Pavilions – These are Buyun Pavilion, Huishou Pavilion, and Lansheng Pavilion. Buyun Pavilion serves as the approach path to the three viewing pavilions, spanning 2 meters wide and about 500 meters long. As the first of the trio, ascending through the clouds to this pavilion offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the surrounding peaks, evoking the feeling of “standing atop the highest peak, all other mountains appear small.” Huishou Pavilion is the second of the three, where looking back westward reveals layers of lush forests, full of charm and delight. Lansheng Pavilion, the highest of the three, provides the best vantage point to gaze at the peony seas below. When in full bloom, the vast expanse of floral splendor stretches as far as the eye can see.
