Baocheng Temple

Baocheng Temple is a cultural relic protection unit of Chongqing Municipality.

Baocheng Temple is located in Baocheng Temple Village, Changyuan Town, Rongchang County, and dates back to the Ming and Qing dynasties.

[Chongqing Rongchang Baocheng Temple] Originally named Zhenjue Temple, it was first built during the Shaoxing era of the Southern Song Dynasty (1132–1162) and renovated in the sixth year of the Longqing era of the Ming Dynasty (1572). Yu Maojian, Minister of Punishments in the Ming Dynasty, once composed an inscription for the temple. It originally had a courtyard layout and was a large wooden structure. By 1985, only the front hall, scripture depository, rear hall, and side rooms remained, covering an area of about 2,500 square meters. During the War of Resistance against Japan, it was used as Baocheng Academy and lectures were given there by notable Buddhist masters such as Master Taixu.

In 2000, Baocheng Temple was listed as one of the first batch of cultural relic protection units of Chongqing Municipality by the Chongqing Municipal People's Government.
