The former site of the Red Third Army Headquarters in Nanyaojie is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The former site of the headquarters of the Third Red Army of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army is located at Yujiantongzi in Nanyaojie Township, at the southern end of Youyang Tujia and Miao Autonomous County. Yujiantongzi was originally the private residence of Yu Lancheng, a late Qing Dynasty scholar. It is a large U-shaped tile-and-wood structure with a stilted building made of wood and stone, featuring five visible and seven hidden rooms totaling 12 rooms, covering an area of 599 square meters. The courtyard has neatly laid flagstones, with wing rooms and stilted buildings facing each other from north to south, and green brick firewalls on both sides. After the Red Third Army moved into the Yu residence, they built a 2.8-meter-high, 278-meter-long wall around the house using strip stones and firebricks. There are two hawthorn trees planted by He Long in the courtyard.

In June 1934, the Red Third Army (formerly the Second Red Army Corps), led by He Long and others, arrived in Nanyaojie, Youyang, and established the Sichuan-Guizhou Border Revolutionary Base Area with Nanyaojie as its center. In October of the same year, Xiao Ke, Wang Zhen, and Ren Bishi led the Sixth Red Army Corps to join forces with the Second Red Army Corps here. The meeting room of the Central Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party’s Hunan-Hubei-Sichuan-Xi Region, as well as the offices and living quarters of He Long, Xia Xi, and Guan Xiangying, were also located within the former site.

The former site of the headquarters of the Third Red Army of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army is a Chongqing Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Unit. In May 2013, the former site of the Red Third Army Headquarters in Nanyaojie was announced as part of the seventh batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units.

Nanyaojie Town: Nanyaojie Township is located in the southern part of Youyang County, 105 kilometers from the county seat. It governs 7 villages and 52 groups, with 5,653 households and a population of 19,352, covering an area of 93 square kilometers. The township has a long history, rich agricultural characteristics, and rapid local development. In 2006, the township achieved a regional GDP of 60.006 million yuan.
