Hainan’s Wenyufeng Taoist Culture Garden is situated in Wenyufeng, Ding’an County, around 46 kilometers from Haikou. Here, mountains and lakes intertwine in perfect harmony, creating a landscape that has long been seen as a symbol of the cultural richness of “the Marvelous Land of the South” and serving as a microcosm of Hainan’s cultural scenery. Over the centuries, this area has accumulated profound cultural significance, produced numerous renowned scholars and virtuous figures, and given rise to many beautiful myths and folk tales that are widely circulated.

The Wenyufeng Taoist Culture Garden is a newly developed large-scale cultural tourism destination in northern Hainan. Invested in by Hainan Zhongye Tourism Industry Development Co., Ltd., the garden features a construction style based on the Southern Song Dynasty, with a multitude of classical-style buildings built around the Wenyufeng mountain.

Upon entering the southern gate of the Wenyufeng Taoist Culture Garden, you’ll first come to the Jade Toad Palace, followed by the Immortal Corridor and Qiongyuan, the Southern Heavenly Gate, and the Jade Toad Pavilion. Enshrined in the Jade Toad Pavilion is Bai Yuchan, the revered master of the Southern Taoist School and founder of its principal altar. Other attractions within the Wenyufeng Taoist Culture Garden include:

the Guanyin Temple, the Yuan Chen Hall, and the Magpie Bridge.

The Wenyufeng Taoist Culture Garden is a large-scale cultural theme park integrating tourism, sightseeing, leisure, entertainment, and cultural research. Covering an area of nearly 1,000 acres, the garden is built around Wenyufeng in the style of Southern Song Dynasty architecture. Numerous classical pavilions and halls are scattered gracefully across the mountainside, giving the site a majestic, ancient, and profoundly atmospheric presence.

The Jade Toad Palace within the garden is the only legally recognized Taoist temple in Hainan. It is also the final resting place of Bai Yuchan, the actual founder of the Southern Taoist School and one of its Five Patriarchs. The palace is revered by Taoists as the “Principal Altar of the Southern School.” The Jade Toad Palace boasts the world’s largest complex of Taoist architecture, consisting of nearly 20 halls including the Mercy Shrine for peace, the Moon God Hall for marital harmony, the Yuan Chen Hall for life guidance, the Wenchang Pavilion for wisdom, the Medicine King Hall for health and longevity, and the Wealth God Hall for prosperity. With complete architectural structures and distinct styles, the complex systematically showcases Taoist-themed cultural characteristics. The halls are exquisitely beautiful, with incredibly intricate carvings. Among them, the main hall — the Jade Toad Pavilion — enshrines Bai Yuchan, the Fifth Patriarch of the Southern School. Its basic design is an octagonal tower, with upturned and double eaves accentuated by lighting that recreates the Taoist scripture-described scene of “octagonal radiance” in the heavenly palace at night. The building’s style is a signature feature of the Jade Toad Palace.

The Wenyufeng Taoist Culture Garden inherits the elegance and spirit of classical Chinese Taoist culture. Discount Policies

1. Children under 1.2 meters (not including 1.2 meters) are admitted free of charge.

2. Seniors aged 70 and above (with valid ID), journalists (with a press card issued by the state), active-duty military personnel (with military ID or soldier card), and disabled military personnel (with disability certificate) can enter free of charge.

2. Children between 1.2 and 1.4 meters in height may purchase a child ticket for 28 RMB; students (with a valid full-time student ID) can enjoy a discounted ticket for 28 RMB/person; those with a Hainan household registration can purchase a discounted ticket for 38 RMB/person with their ID (the above discount policies require on-site purchase at the scenic area).
