Nanfu Reservoir

Nanfu Reservoir is a national water conservancy scenic area.

Nanfu Reservoir is located in Leiming Town along the Tongren River, a tributary of the Longzhou River in the county. Construction began in April 1959. The dam is a homogeneous earth-fill type, with the main dam crest stretching 230 meters in length and a 0.9-meter-high mortar-plastered stone wave wall on the crest. There are nine auxiliary dams, with a total length of 1,227 meters. The upstream slope protection of the earth dam consists of 35-centimeter-thick dry-laid rubble stones with cement mortar pointing. The sand and gravel cushion layer is 20 centimeters thick.

A temporary spillway is created using the mountain hollow of an auxiliary dam. There are two water release culverts: the first is a soil-based tunnel lined with precast reinforced concrete blocks, while the second is a reinforced concrete structure. In 1964, a permanent spillway was constructed. It is a gated broad-crested weir with a total net width of 34.8 meters, featuring five 6×4.3-meter reinforced concrete flat double-cantilever gates. The steep slope ends with a ski-jump energy dissipation design. Due to the lack of geological drilling during the design phase, only surface geological assessments were made. When excavation of the flip bucket reached the designed depth, bedrock was not found. A subsequent geological review revealed that the wall site was located on the Huangzhu Fault. Field hydraulic experiments led to a switch to a roller bucket energy dissipation method, and a secondary weir was built on the downstream bedrock to control the tailwater level. The reservoir area project was completed and accepted in 1965.

The designed irrigation area is 9,334 hectares. The current main canal system has a total length of 47 kilometers (including three sections of buried concrete pipes totaling 1,400 meters, and 12 kilometers of concrete seepage prevention lining), with branch canals extending 85 kilometers (28 kilometers of which are concrete seepage prevention lined). The drivable length of the canal embankments is 46 kilometers. The current irrigated area is 4,807 hectares.

In the early 1990s, the county government organized tourism development in the reservoir area, establishing the now well-developed Nanli Lake Leisure Tourism Zone.
