Jiuhai Well Red Army Memorial Pavilion The Jiuhai Well Red Army Memorial Pavilion is located in Hemu Village, Xinxu Township, Guanyang County, by the Quansha Highway, 18 kilometers from downtown Guanyang. It covers an area of 3,500 square meters and was built in October 2004. In November 1934, to cover the Central Red Army’s crossing of the Xiang River, the artillery battalion, the 14th and 15th regiments of the Red Fifth Division and the 18th regiment of the Red Sixth Division were ordered to resist the fierce attacks of two enemy divisions and one independent regiment in Pai Bu Jiang and Xinxu areas of Guanyang Town. After three days and four nights of bloody battle, they successfully completed their mission. Due to the urgent battle situation, more than 100 wounded soldiers left behind at the temporary aid station in Xialiwan, Xinxu, could not be evacuated during the retreat and were brutally thrown alive into the Jiuhai Well by the enemy, all of whom died heroically. On May 25, 2006, it was approved as a National Cultural Relics Protection Unit.
