Guanyang Yuntai Temple

Guanyang Yuntai Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

Yuntai Temple is located 5 kilometers northwest of Huangguan Town. Built during the Tang Dynasty, it was once a grand landmark in the county, featuring 48 Buddha niches, commonly known as the “Forty-Eight Niche Temples.” From the late Qing Dynasty to the Republican era, the temple was repeatedly abandoned, and by the time of liberation, only ruins remained. In 2005, reconstruction of Yuntai Temple began. The temple enshrines the deity “Shoufoye” (the Old Man of Longevity), whose Dharma name is Master Quanzhen. It is said that the eighth day of the second lunar month is Master Quanzhen’s birthday. Therefore, on this day, villagers from far and near gather here for fairs, offering incense and joss paper, praying to the gods, forming a grand temple fair. However, since the eighth day of the second lunar month is also just before the spring plowing and sowing season in the local rural areas, in recent years, people no longer come just to burn incense and pray, but instead come to purchase farming tools and supplies in preparation for the planting season. The deity-worshipping temple fair has thus evolved into today’s most vibrant folk festival in Guanyang — the Farming Tools Festival.
