Huixian Karst National Wetland

Huixian Karst National Wetland is a national AAA-level tourist attraction and a national wetland park.

Guilin’s Huixian Wetland is China’s largest karst wetland, designated as the “Guangxi Guilin Huixian Karst National Wetland Park.” The Huixian Wetland is primarily spread across areas such as Mudong, Siyi, Xinmin, Shanwei, Wenquan, and Mamian in Huixian Town, Lingui County. Its territory includes rivers and lakes such as the Xiangsi River, Liangfeng River, the Tang Dynasty–excavated Guilin–Liuzhou Canal (also known as the Xiangsi Dyke Canal), and Mudong Lake.

The planned total area of the wetland park is 586.75 hectares, encompassing lacustrine and marsh wetlands centered around Mudong Lake, as well as Longtoushan Mountain, Fen Shuitang, Lion Mountain, Fengjia Fishpond, and the ancient Guilin–Liuzhou Canal between Fen Shuitang and the Xiangsi River. It stretches east to the eastern canal of Fen Shuitang, west to the Xiangsi River, south to Qixing Village, and north to the fish farm behind Lion Mountain.

The unique landform of Huixian Wetland features towering, diversely shaped mountains, crisscrossing rivers and ponds, and dozens of picturesque rocky hills rising from the vast blue waters. Highlights include the breathtaking Jiutou Mountain, as well as Phoenix Mountain and Dragon Mountain. The area also boasts intricate wetland channels, natural reed marshes, numerous ancient bridges crisscrossing the landscape, and the ruins of old temples.

Most of the villages surrounding Huixian Karst Wetland were resettled here after the Song Dynasty and have histories of 300 to 800 years. Prior to the Song Dynasty, this area was sparsely populated, with swamps and wild grasslands intermingling amid lush water plants and scattered trees. At that time, the extent of the Huixian Karst Wetland likely included much of today’s Dashawan Village in Sitang Township, Sizhen in Lingui County, as well as Mudong, Siyi, Xinmin, Shanwei, Wenquan, Mamian in Huixian Town, and Zhuyuan Village in Yueshan Town, Yanshan District—covering an area of approximately 65 square kilometers.

About Huixian Town: Located in the southwestern part of Lingui County, Huixian Town is about 30 kilometers from downtown Guilin and the county seat of Lingui, offering very convenient transportation. The town enjoys a prime geographical location, bordering Sitang Township and Liutang Town of the same county, Luojin Town of Yongfu County, Er’tang Township of Xiangshan District in Guilin, and Yueshan Town of Yanshan District in Guilin.
