Shiwandashan Forest Park

Shiwandashan Forest Park is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

Located in the southwestern part of Shangsi County, Fangchenggang City, Guangxi, it is 36 kilometers from the county seat, 136 kilometers from Nanning, and 100 kilometers from Dongxing, a popular tourist city. The park lies on the golden tourism route connecting Guilin, Nanning, Shiwandashan Forest Park, Dongxing, and Ha Long Bay in Vietnam. Its predecessor was Hongqi Forest Farm, an ecological public welfare forest focusing on the protection of water source forests. The total jurisdictional area is 2,037 hectares, including 1,336 hectares of water source forests, accounting for 65% of the total area, with a forest coverage rate of over 98%. In July 1995, the forest farm underwent industrial restructuring and developed forest tourism using forest resources and natural landscapes, establishing Shiwandashan Forest Park. The park is located in the core area of Shiwandashan. The 1950s film "Tiger Heroes" was set in Shiwandashan, and the park served as an important filming location. The release of the film "Tiger Heroes" brought nationwide fame to Shiwandashan. In August 1996, Shiwandashan Forest Park was designated as a national forest park by the State Forestry Administration. Currently, the forest park and Hongqi Forest Farm operate under one management team with two brands and unified accounting. It has seven departments: guest room, tour guide, catering, engineering, security, external liaison, and office. The total assets amount to 17.91 million yuan, with liabilities totaling 5.88 million yuan, including 4.35 million yuan in bank loans. There are 142 employees, including 97 cadres and contract workers, 22 retirees, and 23 hired workers. Currently, 70 people work at the park.

Since its opening in 1995, the park has received a cumulative total of 260,000 visitors. Over the years, it has raised 10 million yuan to invest in reception facilities, scenic spot development, and supporting infrastructure. Currently, there are two hotels, 18 wooden buildings, 19 wooden cottages, one lakeside restaurant, and one multifunctional complex building. All roads within the reception area are paved. The park now has 65 guest rooms, 138 fixed beds, 100 mobile tents, and a lakeside restaurant that can accommodate 200 diners simultaneously, with an annual reception capacity of 60,000 visitors. A 17.5-kilometer walking trail has been built, and 33 scenic spots have been developed, such as the Natural Herbal Bath Pool, Fairy Bath Pool, Root on Stone, Dragon Robe Tree, Love Net in Unity, Source Waterfall, and Nine-Dragon Pine. 25,000 square meters of lawns have been planted. Program-controlled telephones, mobile communications, and oil roads connected to the county seat have been installed. The tourist road from the park to Wangle is an important tourism route in Fangchenggang City for “going up the mountain, down to the sea, and abroad.”

Shiwandashan is an important climatic divide in the southwestern part of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The mountain range runs northeast to southwest and extends into Vietnam in the southwest. It is over 170 kilometers long and 15–30 kilometers wide. The mountain elevation is around 1,000 meters, with the main peak, Shiliangling, reaching 1,462 meters, the highest point in southern Guangxi. The Shiwandashan area is a negative structural unit formed by Mesozoic-era subsidence. Thick and widely distributed deposits of Mesozoic red rock formations (sandstone, shale, conglomerate) have undergone folding and faulting since the Tertiary period, rising to become the youngest folded mountain range in Guangxi. The terrain is higher in the south and lower in the north. The southern part consists of a main axis of Shiwandashan with ridges ranging from 1,200 to 1,400 meters, gradually descending northward, successively forming monoclinal mountains and hills at elevations of 850 meters, 700 meters, 550 meters, and 400 meters. Most rivers flow northward along the slopes and belong to the Yu River system. Due to the influence of multiple monoclinal terrains, rivers often develop along fractured zones and between monoclinal mountains, resulting in winding riverbeds with sharp turns and straight stretches, as well as numerous rapids. Rivers on the southern side of the mountains are short and flow directly into the sea.
