Yingtian Waterfall

Yingtian Waterfall is located in a valley 3 kilometers southwest of Nianwen Village, Yao Ethnic Township, at the foot of Sapu Mountain in the Shiwandashan Mountain Range. The waterfall cascades down from the mountainside onto a relatively flat and broad rock slab, where the water outlet forms a concave shape. The falling water strikes a wall-like cliff that is 28 meters high, with a recess in the rocky wall several meters deep and wide—shaped much like a “water curtain cave.” A rock slab just a few meters away from the waterfall’s base can produce a loud, drum-like sound when struck with a fist, kicked, or hit with a stone. During heavy rains in spring and summer, when mountain floods rush down, the thunderous roar of the waterfall can be heard for miles, shaking the eardrums. This is how it got the name “Yingtian Spring” (Responsing-to-the-Sky Spring). Dozens of meters below the waterfall, there lies a huge rock resembling an elephant, lying submerged in the stream. In the same stream, about 100 and 200 meters from this waterfall, there are two smaller falls, each around ten meters high. Locals refer to Yingtian Waterfall as the “Head Dragon,” while the smaller ones downstream are called the “Second Dragon” and the “Third Dragon.”
