Jinzongshan Black-necked Long-tailed Pheasant National Nature Reserve is a national-level nature reserve.
Jinzongshan Black-necked Long-tailed Pheasant National Nature Reserve The reserve was established in 1982 with the approval of the Autonomous Region People's Government and was officially upgraded to a national nature reserve in 2008. It is the medium-sized nature reserve with the highest concentration of black-necked long-tailed pheasants among China’s wildlife reserves, and also the only national nature reserve for the black-necked long-tailed pheasant. The total area of the reserve is 20,924.4 hectares. Among this, the core zone covers 8,404.3 hectares, the buffer zone 4,292.2 hectares, and the experimental zone 8,227.7 hectares, with a forest coverage rate of 92.1%. The reserve is home to 389 species of terrestrial vertebrate wildlife, belonging to 4 classes, 31 orders, and 97 families. This includes 5 species under national first-class protection, such as the black-necked long-tailed pheasant—the globally endangered species with an estimated global population of about 1,500–3,500 individuals. Guangxi has a total black-necked long-tailed pheasant population of 500, and Jinzongshan Reserve alone hosts 9 species of pheasants, including over 200 individuals of the nationally protected black-necked long-tailed pheasant. There are also 47 species under national second-class protection. The reserve contains 1,487 species (including aquatic species) of wild vascular plants, belonging to 195 families and 725 genera. Among these, there are 3 species of national first-class protected wild plants: Guizhou cycad, Longlin cycad, and Bretschneidera sinensis. There are also 10 species (including varieties) of national second-class protected wild plants, such as Alsophila spinulosa.
